[Landscape Design] Island of Lake of Zijingang Campus

This studio project turns the small island in the lake of Zhejiang University’s Zijingang campus into a healing garden. The design started from sight-line and circulation analysis, since the island is watched from two busy shore paths, and from the needs of therapeutic use: a sense of safety, low physical effort, small enclosed areas, and calm transitions between them.

The plan divides the island into a waterside viewing edge, a central activity-and-therapy zone with lawns you can lie down on, and a dense planted buffer that screens the internal road. Woven pod-like shelters offer one-person and small-group retreat spaces, all main paths are barrier-free, and the planting palette (willow, osmanthus, Japanese maple, ginkgo, and magnolia) is chosen to shift with the seasons.
